The design
Danish designer Anker Bak presents Cyklus, a modern memorial shelf built as “a space for returning to what truly matters in our lives.” Inspired by the Japanese butsudan, the traditional home altar, Cyklus reworks the form into a domestic object meant for presence, reflection and memory — for people we love, living or dead, and for the things that remind us who we are.
Materials and construction
Cyklus is made in oak with brass details and upholstery, and comes in three diameters: Ø30 cm, Ø60 cm and Ø80 cm, scaling from a small personal shelf to a larger piece built for a shared domestic space.

Anker Bak is a cabinetmaker and designer rooted in the Danish design tradition, working across craftsmanship, material understanding and everyday human needs. His practice includes the Akari memorial urn, made for Fredahl Rydens, furniture developed with Carl Hansen & Søn, and a collaboration with OneCollection centered on dignity in design. Bak has received the Finn Juhl Prize, the Wegner Prize, the Cabinetmakers’ Prize and the Kold Christensen Award.
