Council Beam Installed at Odense University Hospital

The Council family, designed by Salto & Sigsgaard for Onecollection, has welcomed new members.

The latest addition — the Council beam — has been installed at Odense University Hospital (OUH) in Denmark, marking a significant public commission for the collection.

The Council family has its origins in a competition brief issued by the Danish Arts Foundation in 2011. Salto & Sigsgaard entered to create new furniture for the Trusteeship Council Chamber at the United Nations building in New York City — chairs and tables for the Secretariat, as well as delegate seating arranged around the central area. Their entry won, initiating a close collaboration with Onecollection that eventually grew into a broader family of seating.

The concept behind the Council family is comfort. The original chair was designed as a working chair that supported prolonged seated use — as required in a diplomatic setting. The expanded family extends that principle to private sitting rooms, restaurants, receptions, lobbies, and other public environments.

Structurally, comfort is achieved through upholstered seat and back, supported by a steel construction. A deliberate gap between seat and back adds flexibility. Both the chair and lounge chair are available with four legs or a single column base, and all pieces are upholstered for easy reupholstery in textile or leather.

The initial series was presented in a mix of colours and materials — textile and leather — to allow contrast and emphasise the silhouette of each piece.
