Following earlier collaborations, Swedish brass maker Skultuna presents a new product with British designer Ilse Crawford: a wall sconce for candles, designed to bring warm, living light into the modern home.
The design
The sconce combines Scandinavian minimalism with a tactile, British sense of material. Its form is pared back but has a strong visual presence, working as an object on the wall during the day and as a source of atmosphere in the evening. Combining durable materials with a timeless design language, the aim is for the sconce to last for generations.
“We wanted to create a product that feels both functional and poetic. The atmospheric glow of a living flame has a unique ability to create calm and a sense of home, qualities that feel more important than ever in our everyday lives,” says Ilse Crawford.
About Ilse Crawford
Ilse Crawford is known for a humanistic design philosophy in which human needs and wellbeing always come first. With this sconce, she focuses on the capacity of candlelight to change the atmosphere of a room. Crawford founded her London studio in 2001 and has worked across interiors and product design, including the Ett Hem hotel in Stockholm. Her first project with Skultuna was the Nurture collection of 2019, a brass watering can and pots in brass and ceramic.
