As the autumn nights draw in, Artek introduces classic Alvar Aalto lighting in new colours. Pendant Light A110 “Hand Grenade” and Pendant Light A330S “Golden Bell” now arrive in brick red, a historic hue selected from Artek’s archives. The autumn 2026 release also presents Pendant Light A331 “Beehive” in dark blue, while Floor Light A805 “Angel Wing” and Wall Light A910 appear in olive.

Pendant Light A330S “Golden Bell”
Designed by Aino and Alvar Aalto in 1937, A330S was originally created for the interior of the Savoy Restaurant in Helsinki and shown the same year in the Finnish Pavilion at the Paris World Exhibition. Its sculptural form gives the light a clear presence in a room, whether lit or unlit.
The shade is made from a single piece of hand-spun metal. Its perforated rim is an integral part of the construction, with both a visual and a functional role: light reflects off the metal to form a soft halo, while the rim helps reduce glare. The rounded silhouette, typical of Aalto’s streamlined form language, combines with a warm, diffused light. According to Artek, the brick red colour highlights the light’s sculptural form.

Pendant Light A110 “Hand Grenade”
Alvar Aalto designed A110 in 1952 for the House of the Finnish Society of Technicians. The nickname comes from the shape’s resemblance to a hand grenade. Its clean lines and simple construction made it popular, and it went into production in the 1950s.
A painted steel shade is paired with a perforated brass ring that diffuses the light and prevents glare. A110 works equally well alone or in a series: above a kitchen island, a dining table or a bedside table at home, and in cafés and restaurants, the kind of public setting where it first appeared. In brick red, the pendant takes on a new expression while keeping its original character.
Availability
Both brick red pendants are released as limited series in Artek’s online store. They are made to order to avoid overproduction.
