ContourFloor by Brad Ascalon Wins German Design Award 2020 — Glimakra of Sweden
ContourFloor and ContourFloor Glass, designed by Brad Ascalon for Glimakra of Sweden, have been awarded Winner 2020 by the German Design Award in the category Excellent Product Design — Office Furniture.
The ceremony took place in Frankfurt on 7 February 2020.
The German Design Award is among the most prestigious design competitions internationally, organised by the German Design Council. The award recognises products that demonstrate outstanding design quality and innovation, assessed by an independent jury of design experts from Europe and beyond.
Brad Ascalon is a New York-based industrial designer with a broad practice spanning furniture, lighting and product design. His work is distributed by manufacturers across Europe and North America. The ContourFloor system was developed in close collaboration with Glimakra of Sweden, a manufacturer with roots in traditional Swedish textile craft that has expanded into functional interior design systems including room dividers, acoustic solutions and flexible floor-based partition products.
ContourFloor is a floor-standing acoustic and spatial divider designed to define zones within open-plan environments without permanent construction. The glass variant, ContourFloor Glass, introduces transparency and light transmission into the system. The product’s recognition at the German Design Award reflects a growing interest in flexible, design-led solutions for contemporary workplaces — a field where Glimakra has built significant expertise. Glimakra of Sweden is based in Glimåkra, Skåne.
