Background
Mitab has been family-owned since 1979, based in Tranås and still running local production rather than outsourcing manufacturing abroad. The company has partnered with Basic Collection around shared commitments to sustainable methods and local production, and runs a dedicated Refresh & Renew service — reupholstering or repainting worn furniture, regardless of its original manufacturer, rather than treating replacement as the default.
Key collaborations
White Arkitekter designed the Arc shell chair for the contract market, and Mattias Stenberg‘s Dapper sofa brought oversized comfort to the range. Jonas Wagell contributed the pared-back Brace armchair, and John Astbury designed Edit, a modular sofa system built for reconfiguration.
Recent work
2025 brought two additions to Mitab’s Basic Collection: Sami Kallio’s Nobo chair, developed through a design process focused specifically on comfort and function, and Thomas Eriksson’s Ollie barstool.
