Studio Mattias Stenberg is a mixed creative practice based in Stockholm, founded in 2010. Its projects span contemporary residential architecture, furniture, lighting and everyday object design, combining Stenberg’s background in both business development and engineering with a design education.
Design philosophy
“I believe that good concepts are the ones immediately understood and consumed by the user. This will always be the core and starting point of all our projects,” Stenberg has said of his approach. Form and materiality are treated as tools that support what an object will do and how it is first perceived — with colour and detailing adding the layers and texture that give a piece its longevity over time.
Collaborations
For the Swedish glassmaker Orrefors, Stenberg designed Array, a series of blown glass dishes in silver. For Offecct he has developed several projects, among them the On Point table and the Carry On seating system. For the outdoor furniture manufacturer Nola he designed Arena, a modular concrete seating system built from individual units, tables and planters. His client list also includes Materia, Adea, Fora Form, Mitab, Kosta Boda, Zero and bsweden.
Recognition
Since the studio’s start in 2010, Stenberg has received a number of national and international awards and mentions, including a German Design Award, a Good Design Award and Nordic Designer of the Year. “If my work is perceived as trendy by someone, it’s purely by lucky coincidence.
