Background

Bsweden was founded in 1993 by Gunnel Svensson, who grew up around good design without having to look far for it — her family ran Svenssons, a furniture company in Lammhult already close to a century old. She studied art at Atlantic College in Wales and industrial design under Bruno Munari at Milan’s Scuola Politecnica di Design, then spent her early twenties responsible for exhibition and product design in Bad Salzufeln, Germany, organising roughly a hundred exhibitions while designing furniture and planning trade fair stands for the major furniture fairs. Bsweden’s lamps have travelled from its factory in the Småland forests to locations worldwide ever since, picking up a run of design awards along the way.

Design philosophy

The company’s own framing is simple: quality and design are what have carried Bsweden’s lamps out of a small Småland factory and into homes and public spaces internationally — an ambition built more on consistency across three decades than on any single signature style.

Key collaborations

Louise Hederström has been one of Bsweden’s most consistent collaborators, responsible for the long-running Dolly collection since 2009 as well as the Dixie lamp, winner of a Blueprint Design Award. Mattias Stenberg designed the Shell pendant, while Helena Svensson’s Cymbal has stayed in the collection long enough to be reworked in new colours more than once. Renowned Swedish studio Front contributed the disco-ball Konfetti Chandelier, and Jonas Wagell’s Cloud pendant takes its name from what it’s designed to fix.

Recent work

Olle Andersson’s Ella table lamp joined the collection in 2022, and Louise Hederström returned in 2023 with an interior design project for Hyllie Terrace built largely from reused and discarded materials — circularity applied to the room around the lamps, not just the lamps themselves.
