Cosmo is a seating range designed by Håkan Olsson and Kristofer Jonsson of White Arkitekter for Swedish manufacturer Jonas Ihreborn.

The collection was presented in 2020 as an update and extension of a design first introduced in earlier iterations for the same manufacturer.

The design premise is direct: Cosmo is built to be functional and durable.

The base is constructed from powder-coated tube metal — a material choice that prioritises structural integrity and ease of cleaning over decorative complexity. The upholstered seat and back provide comfort; the metal frame ensures that the chair can be moved, reconfigured, and maintained with minimal effort. This combination of soft seating with a hard, serviceable base reflects the requirements of contract and public environments where furniture must withstand intensive use without loss of appearance or function.

Comfort and practicality are treated as equal conditions rather than competing priorities. The chair’s design does not sacrifice one for the other — it is, as the manufacturer describes, both comfortable and highly functional. This balance is characteristic of a strand of Scandinavian contract furniture design that addresses the workplace, healthcare, and hospitality sectors with the same formal seriousness applied to residential furniture.

Håkan Olsson and Kristofer Jonsson are architects at White Arkitekter, one of Sweden’s largest architectural practices. White Arkitekter works across architecture, urban planning, and interior design, and its designers have contributed to furniture and product design projects alongside the firm’s architectural commissions.

Jonas Ihreborn is a Swedish furniture manufacturer based in Värnamo with a portfolio focused on public and contract seating.
