Norwegian designer Daniel Rybakken has unveiled Niche, a shelf for Swedish brand Eldvarm, launched at 3 Days of Design in Copenhagen.
Niche takes its name and form from the architectural niche, referencing the Latin root of the word, nidus, meaning nest.
The shelf’s faceted walls and roof fold inward to create a small alcove, transforming whatever is placed inside into something elevated, almost as if displayed on a pedestal.

The piece is constructed in powder-coated steel and is available in two sizes. It can be wall-hung or used as a free-standing object, depending on the setting.
Rybakken is based in Gothenburg, Sweden, where he founded Studio Daniel Rybakken in 2008 after studying at the Oslo School of Architecture and the School of Arts & Crafts in Gothenburg. He is the first Scandinavian designer to receive Italy’s Compasso d’Oro award, which he won in 2014 and again in 2016. In 2015, Wallpaper* named him one of the top 20 designers in the world under 40, and in 2017 he received the Torsten and Wanja Söderberg Prize.
