INGEGERD RÅMAN – BACK IN BLACK
Ingegerd Råman exhibits her glass at Orrefors Gallery on Birger Jarlsgatan 15 in Stockholm from March 10 – April 2, 2005.
The exhibition presents Ingegerd Råman’s development as a designer at Orrefors, featuring glass from recent years’ collections. It includes both everyday objects and limited edition pieces (Orrefors Limited).
Timelessness and simplicity are words that describe her glass. Understated yet pitch-perfect, she creates objects she herself appreciates. These are functional pieces that revolve around food, drink, and the set table. She seeks to refine and focus, while still retaining a sense of delight and beauty in the object.
The black color has fascinated her for a long time, and combined with clear glass, the effect is striking. The exhibition breathes a classic yet dramatically fresh atmosphere.
“It becomes an account of how I think and view form,” says Ingegerd Råman. “What’s entirely new is that I’ve worked with black glass – the opposite of transparent glass. Several original forms are reinterpreted in blue-black glass mass, where the glass’s glossy surface leaves the sand-engraved line with matte traces, like a fog mark in the black night.”
Ingegerd Råman (b. 1943) is a ceramicist trained at Konstfack. She has previously worked as a glass designer at Johansfors and Skruf glassworks. She is one of Sweden’s most distinguished glass designers, with an approach to glass design that fits perfectly with the Orrefors brand. Ingegerd Råman has been appointed professor by the government.
The architect trio Claesson, Koivisto, and Rune designed the exhibition.
