IKEA × Ingegerd Råman — VIKTIGT Collection
VIKTIGT is a collection created by Ingegerd Råman for IKEA, bringing the Swedish glass artist’s sensibility for craft and material honesty to one of the world’s largest furniture retailers.
The name — Swedish for “important” — signals the collection’s ambition: to make handmade quality available at democratic price points.
The collection is built around an appreciation for the handmade: pieces that reveal the trace of their making, with surface variation and slight irregularities that set them apart from mass-produced objects. Ingegerd Råman has described her approach as a commitment to naked design — work that makes no effort to conceal its materials or processes, and instead presents them as the primary source of interest.
VIKTIGT spans objects for the home with a focus on understated, timeless utility. The collaboration drew attention precisely because of the contrast it represented: Råman, whose work for Orrefors and Skrufs sits at the upper end of Swedish craft production, bringing her material discipline to a global, everyday context.
Ingegerd Råman (born 1943 in Stockholm) studied at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design (Konstfack) and has worked with glass, ceramics, and domestic objects throughout a career of more than five decades. She is one of Sweden’s most widely recognised designers.
