Imperial Craftsmanship Reimagined
The KREML Easy Chair continues Mats Theselius’s exploration of national design identities through an extraordinary collaboration with W.A. Bolin, Sweden’s royal court jeweler since 1916. This remarkable piece emerged from an invitation to honor Russian imperial craftsmanship traditions—a fitting tribute from a house that served as court jeweler to four Russian tsars until 1917.
Unveiled during W.A. Bolin’s bicentennial celebration at Moscow’s prestigious Kremlin Museum, the KREML represents the convergence of Swedish design mastery with centuries of Russian imperial artistry. Every detail reflects the opulent precision that once graced the courts of the Romanov dynasty, now transformed through contemporary Scandinavian sensibility.
This chair transcends furniture to become a cultural artifact—a bridge between imperial Russia’s legendary craftsmanship heritage and modern Swedish design innovation. The KREML stands as both homage to lost traditions and celebration of enduring artistic excellence.
