Designed for HAY by Julien Renault, Layout Chair brings together innovation, comfort, and circular thinking in a versatile, customisable seating solution. Its open-back shell defines its form, introducing a sense of lightness – both visually and physically – while offering natural, responsive support. Crafted from at least 96% post-consumer recycled plastic, each component is designed to be disassembled, repaired, and renewed – making refurbishment simple and extending the chair’s life. More than a standalone object, Layout is made to adapt to the space it inhabits. With countless combinations of shells, bases, and legs, it transitions effortlessly between offices, public spaces, and domestic settings – delivering comfort, flexibility, and a refined expression wherever it is placed.

French designer Julien Renault blends rational methods with artistic freedom in his approach to design. Based in Brussels, he draws inspiration from everyday life, transforming the ordinary into something beautiful. His work for numerous international brands reflects the deep connection between objects and their environments. For HAY, Julien has designed the Pastis Table and Chair series, Compass Lamp Collection, and Layout Chair.
