Lucca is a coffee table designed by Broberg & Ridderstråle for Asplund in 2024.

The piece has a formal kinship with Asplund’s premium storage series LUC — sharing its proportional language and material sensibility — while standing independently as a coffee table with its own character and purpose.

The design brings together mid-century Scandinavian aesthetics and a contemporary sense of elegance.

It is conceived as a large table that remains sleek and refined despite its scale — a balance that Johan Ridderstråle describes as working with solid materials in a soft yet contemporary way. The result is a piece that occupies significant presence in a room without becoming heavy or dominant.

Broberg & Ridderstråle is one of Sweden’s most established design duos. Johan Ridderstråle and Mats Broberg have worked together since the early 1990s, building a practice known for furniture and objects that sit comfortably between the functional and the expressive. Their work for Asplund — a Stockholm-based manufacturer known for a careful, curated approach to its collection — reflects a long-standing relationship between the studio and the brand.

Lucca continues a line of thinking that runs through much of Broberg & Ridderstråle’s work: that furniture can be generous in its scale and presence while remaining disciplined in its form, and that the qualities of solid materials are worth allowing to speak for themselves rather than concealing.
