Rondo – The Original 1957 “Phone Chair”
The Rondo is a testament to the idea that necessity is the mother of invention.
Designed by Folke Jansson in 1957, the chair was born from a simple domestic need: Folke needed a comfortable, functional chair to sit in while talking on the telephone.
Little did he know that his personal solution would become a mid-century sensation, selling thousands of copies and becoming one of the most recognizable silhouettes of the era.
The Anatomy of an Icon
The Rondo is celebrated for its sculptural, wrap-around form that provides a sense of “enclosure” and privacy—perfect for a focused telephone conversation or a quiet moment of reading.

The Shell: Modern versions by Ihreborn utilize a durable, molded design. This ensures that the chair maintains its crisp, organic curves over decades of use.

The Swivel Base: One of its most distinctive features is the metal swivel base. The current production includes a tilt/decline function, allowing for a dynamic seating experience that responds to the user’s movements.

The “Space Age” Aesthetic: With its low profile and circular logic, the Rondo perfectly captured the futuristic optimism of the late 1950s.
