The design
Norwegian architect Sverre Fehn (1924–2009) designed the Norrköping 01 stool for Villa Norrköping in Sweden, a house built in 1964 for a housing exhibition exploring the Scandinavian home of the future. Now produced by Fjordfiesta as part of the Sverre Fehn Collection, the stool is made in solid pine and crafted at the factory by skilled artisans.
It is a simple piece with carefully resolved detailing. When not used as seating, the stool doubles as a small table in its own right. It measures W 430 × D 430 × H 380 mm and is presented with its companion piece, the Norrköping 02 table (W 1130 × D 1130 × H 700 mm), also in solid pine. Both pieces were first shown by Fjordfiesta at 3daysofdesign 2025.

A plan built around the core
Villa Norrköping is laid out as a Greek cross, with the kitchen and bathrooms placed at the core of the plan. That centralised structure is echoed in the construction and detailing of the Norrköping furniture, where attention is drawn to the core of the objects themselves. In the stool, everything gathers at the middle.
“Each material has its own shadow. The shadow of a stone is not the same as that of a brittle autumn leaf. The shadow penetrates the material and radiates its message. You converse with material through the pores of your skin, your ears and your eyes,” Fehn said.

The Sverre Fehn Collection
Fehn was an architect of construction, using materials to write stories inseparable from their structure. His furniture follows the same logic: built objects, each based on a constructive idea. He designed furniture throughout his career, tailored to specific houses and public projects, and for years the physical pieces were known only to a few. The Sverre Fehn Collection now makes a curated selection available to a wider audience for the first time. It draws on three projects: the Nordic Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (1962), Villa Schreiner in Norway (1963) and Villa Norrköping (1964). The collection also includes the Venezia 01 armchair, designed for the Nordic Pavilion.
“The furniture was designed specifically for each new project, though a few pieces recur. They are spatial and sensuous — small architectural projects, a room within the room,” says Pål Lunder, founder of Fjordfiesta. “I believe they are universal and don’t depend on the specific room they were intentionally designed for; they hold their own anywhere.”
The collection is developed in close collaboration with Fehn’s family and The Fehn Administration (Fehn Forvaltning), who have followed every step of the process to ensure the result stays true to Fehn’s intentions.

About Sverre Fehn
Sverre Fehn was born in Kongsberg, Norway, in 1924. He took his degree at the Oslo School of Architecture, where he later returned as a professor. In the early 1950s he studied North African mural architecture in Morocco and worked and studied at Jean Prouvé’s office in Paris. Both experiences shaped the practice he established in Oslo in 1953. In 1997 he received the Pritzker Architecture Prize, and he remains the only Norwegian to have done so.
