A Presidential Gift Born from Cultural Exchange

The TXS Easy Chair represents a defining moment in Swedish-American design diplomacy. Conceived during Mats Theselius’s transformative journey through the American South in autumn 2000, this extraordinary piece emerged from his deep study of Western craftsmanship traditions—the same journey that led him to design custom boots with Texas leather and silver artisans.

Crafted in collaboration with American master craftsmen, the TXS embodies the marriage of Scandinavian design philosophy with authentic American artistry. Its creation coincided with Gothenburg’s preparation for the first-ever American presidential visit to Sweden, elevating this chair from furniture to cultural ambassador.

In June 2001, prominent West Swedish corporations recognized the TXS’s significance as a symbol of transatlantic creative partnership, acquiring the piece as an official gift to the White House in Washington. Today, this chair stands as testament to the power of design to bridge cultures and create lasting diplomatic bonds.
