Vind Series design by Kasper Salto for Fritz Hansen

Fritz Hansen proudly presents the Vind Series of outdoor furniture by Danish designer Kasper Salto.

Created to meet the needs of the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Vind continues a dialogue between Salto, Fritz Hansen, and the museum that began more than two decades ago.

Rooted in the Danish word for wind, the Vind Series’s design draws inspiration from maritime architecture and the natural forces that shape the coastline in front of Louisiana.

With a sculptural lightness and considered details reminiscent of boat sails, Vind reflects Salto’s dedication to absolute function in calm, enduring design.

“The Vind chair is a tool for sitting — not a piece of art,” says Kasper Salto. “It’s made to serve people well, like a good host that doesn’t draw attention to itself. It’s comfortable, strong, long-lasting, and calm in its expression.”

The table and chair frames are crafted in 100% powder-coated aluminium selected for strength, longevity, and recyclability. “Aluminium is light, strong and circumvents the issue of rust that can happen with outdoor steel furniture when it gets scratched,” says Salto.

From its mono-material aluminium frame to its meticulously handwoven seat, every detail of Vind is considered. Using around 150 metres of solution-dyed polyester cord, the seat delivers both comfort and resilience, adding a tactile counterpoint to the clean, architectural frame.

Each Vind seat is handwoven by a skilled craftsperson, following extensive training in the weaving technique. It takes four hours to complete one seat, reflecting the same level of care and craftsmanship that defines Fritz Hansen’s production. The result is a design that unites industrial precision with human touch, ensuring every piece carries the subtle variations and character of true craftsmanship.

“The woven seat reflects our approach to craftsmanship — meticulous, thoughtful, and always in dialogue with the material,” says Els Van Hoorebeeck, Creative Director at Fritz Hansen. “It’s the kind of detail that takes patience and precision, yet it’s what gives the Vind Series its lasting comfort and character.”

Salto describes the Vind chair as a natural evolution of the ICE™ chair — the distinctive design that furnished Louisiana’s café for over a decade. First launched in 2004, ICE™ captured a moment of technological optimism with its innovative materials and futuristic construction. Today, Vind responds to a different time: one defined by a focus on longevity, simplicity, and enduring relevance. With its double-curved backrest for comfort and stackable, lightweight form, Vind embodies a refined functionality suited to both private gardens and large-scale hospitality spaces.

The Vind Series includes an armchair, side chair, and a 160×90 cm dining table with adjustable feet, available in Mist Grey and Hunter Green. Designed for enduring use, its quiet aesthetic complements the landscape rather than competing with it — a fitting addition to the serene harbour-side surroundings and art-filled sculpture garden at Louisiana.

The collaboration between Kasper Salto and Fritz Hansen continues a relationship built on shared values of craftsmanship, innovation, and design integrity. Spanning more than twenty-five years, it reflects how Fritz Hansen’s partnerships evolve through mutual understanding and respect for material. The Vind Series stands as a new chapter in this ongoing dialogue — proof that lasting design emerges not from constant reinvention, but from a continued commitment to purpose, quality, and craft.

About Kasper Salto

Danish designer Kasper Salto (b. 1967) creates furniture defined by precision, comfort and care for the human experience. Trained as a cabinetmaker before studying industrial design at the Royal Danish Academy, Salto combines craftsmanship with a modern, inquisitive approach to materials and production.

His long-standing collaboration with Fritz Hansen includes the Pluralis™ table series, Little Friend™ side table, NAP™ chair series and, most recently, the Vind Series for Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. Each design reflects his belief that function and form must evolve together — that relevance and durability are the true measures of a classic.

Guided by the principle of less but better, Salto advocates for design that prioritises quality, longevity and purpose. “We can’t afford not to care,” he says — a reminder that thoughtful design takes time, and that the best products are those created to last.
