In 2022, Marianne Tuxen created the Tulip Pendant for the restoration of Carlsberg founder J.C. Jacobsen’s historic and imposing villa in Copenhagen. Blending classic elegance with modern aesthetics, the pendant, which until now has only adorned the Pompeii Hall in the Carlsberg Academy, is now available for a broader audience for the very first time.
The Pompeii Hall, for which the pendant was originally designed, was inspired by ancient Italy with its conservatory, glass ceilings and pillared courtyard. Understated in its design, the Tulip Pendant blends seamlessly into its lavish surroundings, adding a touch of modernity and simplicity with an opal white glass shade that mimics the characteristic petals of a tulip.
The shade, which is mouth-blown in three layers of glass, provides a uniform, glare-free light, while the small aperture at the bottom provides downward task lighting. The precise, solid brass suspension is designed to merge with the shade to form a perfect, organic whole.
The pendant hangs beautifully either on its own or in clusters and can be used in both private and public environments.
Knud Erik Hansen, CEO and third generation owner-manager of Carl Hansen & Søn, says: “With the Tulip Pendant, Marianne Tuxen has created an understated light fixture that, with its fine details and exquisite materials, illuminates any room in the most beautiful way without stealing the spotlight. The pendant is manufactured at our factory in southern Jutland, where local craftsmanship and unsurpassed technical expertise translate into products that will bring joy for many years.”
