A Table That Brings Focus to Its Own Construction — Anya Sebton for Verk

Swedish designer Anya Sebton has created Table V.AS.01 for the Swedish furniture brand Verk — a piece where the construction is the design.

Produced exclusively from solid Swedish oak or birch, the table is available with either a round or a square tabletop.

The brief was to highlight how a piece of furniture works, not to conceal it. Sebton turned to the geometry of the truss — a structural form typically used in bridges and roof frameworks — and applied it to the table base. The result is a self-supporting form that requires no screws: the joints are held together by the tension and balance of the construction itself.

One of the key details is a threaded wooden pin developed specifically for this table. Rather than requiring the table to be turned over to adjust for uneven floors, the pin can be turned from above, making it possible to stabilise the table in place. A simple solution with considerable thought behind it.

The design addresses Verk’s core philosophy: that furniture should be made from local, traceable materials and produced in Sweden with full transparency. Every component in V.AS.01 comes from Swedish forests — oak or birch, untreated or finished with natural linseed oil.

Anya Sebton is a Stockholm-based designer and interior architect with extensive experience in furniture for public spaces. She has worked with brands including Lammhults, Abstracta, and Asplund, and is known for designs that balance function, material honesty, and clarity of form.

Verk is a Swedish furniture studio committed to local production and consciously chosen materials. The brand builds its collection around collaborations with independent Scandinavian designers, producing furniture with a traceable supply chain from Swedish forests to finished piece.

Table V.AS.01 is available in oak or birch, with a choice of round or square top. It holds its own from every angle — a quality Sebton considers essential for furniture designed to be seen in full.
