Swedish furniture and product designer Peter Andersson has been named the recipient of the 2026 Bruno Mathsson Prize.
Awarded since 1984 by Stiftelsen Karin och Bruno Mathssons fond, the prize is the largest design award in Scandinavia, carrying a sum of 100,000 Swedish kronor.
The award ceremony will take place at Vandalorum, the art and design museum in Värnamo, in connection with the opening of an exhibition featuring Andersson’s work.

In its citation, the foundation writes: “With the user at the centre and subtly conceived ideas, Peter Andersson designs furniture and products that enrich everyday actions with moments of discovery. These are forms that, through subtle radii, shifts and curves, clearly communicate function while also possessing artistic quality and an appealing character. This quality Andersson has impressively extended to the development of furniture for care and education environments — settings with particularly high demands on ergonomics and usability, where the designer’s contribution often remains unacknowledged despite its significant impact on society.”
Peter Andersson (b. 1970) graduated from Konstfack in 1999 and founded Peter Andersson Studio (P A S), which today operates in both Stockholm and southern Sweden. The studio works across a range of projects, from conceptual to strictly functional, with a substantial focus on inclusive design — developing products for healthcare, social care and education. The approach is pragmatic yet expressive, spanning from architecture to the smallest details, always with the ambition of avoiding short-lived trends. Since 2020, the southern studio has also included a full-scale prototyping workshop and space for experimental projects. Andersson has previously served as head teacher at Beckmans College of Design and as a lecturer in furniture design at Konstfack. His work is held in the collections of the Nationalmuseum and the Museum of Furniture Design, among others.
The Bruno Mathsson Prize is awarded by Stiftelsen Karin och Bruno Mathssons fond, established in 1983 through a donation by Karin and Bruno Mathsson. The foundation’s purpose is to advance research, development, teaching and education within the fields of objects and interior and exterior environments.
The 2026 jury comprised the foundation board — Monica Lembke (chair), former cultural director; Elna Svenle, museum director at Vandalorum; and Dan Thelander, co-owner of Bruno Mathsson International — in collaboration with Gustaf Kjellin, curator, author and editor-in-chief of the journal Form, and Gabriella Lenke, designer at TAF Studio and 2017 Bruno Mathsson Prize laureate.
