Swedish Design in Focus
The renowned Swedish watchmaker Sjöö Sandström, launches a limited edition timepiece – the Annual Edition – produced in 86 pieces, in collaboration with Claesson Koivisto Rune
Introducing the Annual Edition 2025 for Sjöö Sandström. Since its founding in 1986, Sjöö Sandström have been a leader in Swedish watchmaking tradition. Today, the company is one of the few Scandinavian watch brands in the luxury segment. Each year, Sjöö Sandström releases a limited edition – the Annual Edition – produced in only 86 pieces, a symbolic tribute to the year the company was founded. This years Annual Edition is in collaboration with Claesson Koivisto Rune.
“We wanted to design a watch as precise as an architectural drawing. Where the drawing was a graphic representation of a three-dimensional spatiality, the watch was a graphic representation of time. Resulting in an aesthetic that could exude the same quality, exactness and readability as a professional technical instrument,” states Claesson Koivisto Rune

Since its founding in 1986, Sjöö Sandström has been a leader in Swedish watchmaking tradition. Today, the company is one of the few Scandinavian watch brands in the luxury segment. Rooted in Swedish craftsmanship and driven by a passion for mechanics, Sjöö Sandström blends tradition with innovation. Each year, Sjöö Sandström releases a limited edition – the Annual Edition – produced in only 86 pieces, a symbolic tribute to the year the company was founded. The series has always carried a strong connection to Sweden and its heritage, drawing inspiration from nature, culture, and craftsmanship. This year, the inspiration for the Annual Edition comes from Swedish design, from the principles of form and the global influence of Scandinavian aesthetics.
For the Annual Edition 2025, Sjöö Sandström collaborates with the acclaimed architectural and design trio Claesson Koivisto Rune. Mårten Claesson, Eero Koivisto, and Ola Rune founded their studio in 1995 and are today regarded as some of Sweden’s most influential designers. Their work spans architecture, furniture, and product design from Tokyo to New York, and can be found in some of the world’s most prestigious projects and collections, earning Claesson Koivisto Rune a respected place in the global design community. Through all their work runs a consistent core: Scandinavian simplicity, precision, and balance. It is these very values that have been interpreted into Sjöö Sandström’s Annual Edition 2025.
For this year’s edition, Claesson Koivisto Rune chose to focus on the watch’s graphic expression and the interplay of light, shadow, and proportion. The matte black dial and inner bezel feature a refined tachymeter scale, reduced to its most functional essence. The number 86 is subtly highlighted – a symbolic nod to Sjöö Sandström’s founding year and its long-standing tradition of crafting 86 pieces of each Annual Edition. Together, these details create a sense of harmonious depth, where every element is placed with purpose and precision.
The newly designed hands and subdials, divided into distinct segments, introduce rhythm and structure. White and grey markers trace across the dial and tachymeter in a precise, almost architectural pattern, characteristic of Claesson Koivisto Rune’s design language, where exactness meets restrained elegance. All white elements – indices, zones, hands, and the white ring on the upper pusher are coated with Super-LumiNova, ensuring that the watch’s graphic character remains visible even in darkness.
The refined pushers, accented in black and white, add subtle contrast and serve as a visual extension of the watch’s design language. The date window, positioned at 7:24, is discreetly integrated to preserve the linear harmony and visual balance of the dial.

Each year, we look for new ways to capture what is truly Swedish, sometimes through nature, sometimes through history. With Claesson Koivisto Rune, we wanted to explore the modern side of Swedish design, where simplicity becomes something greater through precision and balance. says Kristofer Johansson, Partner at Sjöö Sandström.

With the Annual Edition 2025, Sjöö Sandström continues to explore the dialogue between tradition and modernity. Through the collaboration with Claesson Koivisto Rune, two expressions of Swedish design meet – the mechanical precision of watchmaking and the graphic clarity of architecture – in a timepiece made to be worn, experienced, and admired for years to come.
