Vivero | Finnish Furniture from Helsinki

Background

Vivero continues the international story of Finnish design. The company’s story started in the early 1980s, when the Visio and Verde chairs became a symbol of Vivero’s innovative furniture design at the Copenhagen and Milan furniture fairs — there was clearly a demand for something like Vivero. The Vivero spirit, the justification of Vivero’s existence, arises from original and different design that has produced functional tools and real choices for clients and architects for close to 40 years. Vivero is located in the design district of Arabia in Helsinki, at the greenest end of Hämeentie, next to the nest of modern Finnish crafts and design, opposite the Annala Villa by the rapids of the Old Town — the birthplace of the City of Helsinki.

Design philosophy

Vivero furniture design is characterised by exceptional humour and material combinations, suited equally to modern private homes and public interiors. The company believes that most people recognise good design and a well-planned environment, and experience it as a compliment to themselves — an environment people respect is also one they take better care of.

Ilkka Suppanen: the defining collaboration

Ilkka Suppanen has designed more for Vivero than anyone else, spanning the tulip-legged Farhad collection, the diamond-cut Rosebud, and a run of lounge chairs including Kita, Leia and Thelma & Louise.

MottoWasabi and recent collaborations

MottoWasabi has become Vivero’s most active recent collaborator, building out the Japanese-gate-inspired Torii collection from a lounge chair into benches and, most recently, tables. The studio also designed the Päre acoustic divider and updated its Caesar, Kleopatra and Ra chair series.
