Noom sideboard by David Ericsson for Atelier Sandemar

Noom sideboard by David Ericsson for Atelier Sandemar, sculptural flexible storage Swedish design

Noom is a sideboard designed by David Ericsson for Atelier Sandemar.

The piece is conceived as a sculptural object that combines form and function, with a structure built around flexibility: two wooden shelves can be configured with textile accents and adapted between open shelving and drawers depending on the storage needs of the user and the character of the space it inhabits.

This adaptability is central to the design’s logic. Noom does not fix itself to a single configuration but instead offers a range of possibilities within a coherent formal framework — a sideboard that can become more closed or more open, more structured or more relaxed, without losing its overall identity.

The textile accents introduce softness and a degree of warmth into what might otherwise read as a purely architectural object.

The design reflects David Ericsson’s sustained interest in spatial dynamics — the relationship between a piece of furniture and the space around it, and the ways in which storage objects can define and organise an interior without overwhelming it. Noom is described as embodying this exploration: a sideboard that is aware of itself as a spatial element, not only as a functional container.

David Ericsson is a Swedish designer whose work spans furniture and spatial objects, with pieces in production at Blå Station, Källemo, Bebo Objects, Northern, Gemla, Verk, Gärsnäs and Atelier Sandemar.
