Marrakech Design has added Fishbone to its collection — a handmade cement tile designed by Marie-Louise Hellgren.

Hand-drawn diagonal lines form a herringbone pattern with a quietly imperfect, textile-like rhythm, available in three colourways.

Fishbone is Hellgren’s second tile design for Marrakech Design, following Mareld, the organic, dot-patterned collection the pair launched together in 2019.

Like all of Marrakech Design’s tiles, Fishbone is handmade using traditional techniques: natural pigments, Portland cement, marble powder and sand are poured by hand into metal moulds, then hydraulically pressed and left to cure — there is no kiln firing. The coloured surface layer is roughly 3–4 mm thick, and slight variation in tone and edge is part of the material’s character rather than a flaw; the tiles develop a deeper patina over time. Marrakech Design recommends cleaning with a neutral soap or a dedicated Natural Stone & Porcelain aftercare cleaner, and advises against products containing bleach or acids — coffee, citrus fruit and vinegar included, as these can stain the surface if not cleaned promptly.

Hellgren’s first collaboration with Marrakech Design, Mareld, launched in 2019 and drew on the coastal landscape of Bohuslän, translating the glow of bioluminescent plankton in late-summer water into a soft, marbled, dot-based pattern where no two tiles are identical.
