With The Canvas Chair Outdoor, Børge Mogensen’s iconic design meets today’s demand for furniture with outdoor durability and indoor comfort. Presented by Fredericia, the chair pays tribute to Mogensen’s visionary approach, in which simplicity and functionality meld in aesthetic harmony. With its familiar design language and robust natural materials of solid teak and textured fabric, The Canvas Chair Outdoor brings a casual elegance to any outdoor setting.
For the first time, the family-owned design brand is launching furniture intended for both outdoor and indoor use. The Canvas Chair Outdoor is an adaptation of the classic The Canvas Chair, one of Mogensen’s final creations, drawn for Fredericia shortly before his untimely passing in 1972. With ample space to rest a book or cup on its arm, The Canvas Chair Outdoor’s practical dimensions make it an ideal choice for outdoor relaxation. The solid teak and sturdy canvas ensure a long lifetime and high comfort, while its light, elegant form makes it easy to move in and out of doors so that it can be a part of the home all year round, depending on the season and the occasion.
A classic reimagined for the outside
The original The Canvas Chair, which was designed in 1970 with an oak frame, remained in production for only two years. Fredericia relaunched the chair in 2020, and now the classic design has been updated for outdoor use, carrying on Mogensen’s philosophy of dependable materials and perfect proportions. Inspired by the archetypical safari chairs and Mogensen’s Spanish Chair, The Canvas Chair Outdoor balances the rustic with the sophisticated.
The FSC®-certified teak is carefully selected and uniquely suited for outdoor use. This oil-bearing wood is highly resistant to wear and resilient against the elements. The warm, red-brown tone of the teak can be maintained by regularly treating it with oil. Still, the wood is also popular for its lovely characteristic patina, which develops when left untreated. Over time, it will elegantly transform into a shade of silver grey that only enhances its natural beauty.
