Gio, the award-winning Gio Ponti-inspired pendant lamp by Luca Nichetto for &Tradition, reinterpreted as a floor lamp this year.

A contemporary reinterpretation of Venetian glass craftsmanship, the first Gio lamp by Luca Nichetto was a pendant that blends decades of design sensibilities in a showstopping chandelier.

Now, this design receives thoughtful adaptations, evolving into a floor lamp with equal appeal.

The Gio lamp celebrates the timeless beauty of layered glasswork, reimagined through a modern lens. The new floor lamp’s defining feature is two spun metal shades, one in Dark Chrome and another in a glossy Ecru White – a visual tie to the pendant lamp, making it effortlessly easy to pair in clustered formations.

The new floor lamp features an Emperador marble base, enhancing its materiality while also providing a strong, grounding anchor. The lamp’s base is made from steel with a finish that matches the lower shade, Dark Chrome, and stands at a statement height of 180cm. The upward direction of the shade creates a subtle up-light, which is dimmable for soft yet effective ambience in rooms.

Luca Nichetto’s deep-rooted connection to Murano, where his grandfather crafted exquisite glass products, is embedded in the design of the Gio lamp series. Each spun aluminium tier unites to form a striking conical shape, a subtle nod to the intricate craft that has defined the glasswork of the Venetian island for centuries.

Nichetto comments: “The new Gio floor lamp celebrates the soul of the previous suspension version, celebrating fundamental geometric shapes. For this variant, we wanted to work with a new product type for the &Tradition portfolio: an indirect light floor lamp. Following the tradition of the classic luminator lamp, the characteristic cones of Gio become a reflective base, using rich colours and materiality that come from the history of Italian design.”

The full collection now includes the new floor lamp in one colour combination: Ecru White, Dark Chrome and Emperador Marble, and two pendant sizes – which can be chosen in one of two colour combinations: Signal Green, Deep Blue & Ecru White, or Vermillion Red, Dark Burgundy & Ecru White.

Luca Nichetto

After graduating from University Institute of Architecture in Venice, Luca Nichetto established his eponymous firm in 2006. Based between his studios in Italy and Sweden, the self-confessed ‘old-fashioned designer’ is a firm believer in the creativity that arises from the collaborative process between designer and company. His deeply researched pieces – which range across products, furniture, and accessories – have been recognized with numerous international awards.
