Gunilla Allard’s Carousel Chair Gets a Four-Legged Base at Lammhults

Carousel 4 legs

Lammhults has introduced a four-legged version of the Carousel conference chair, designed by Gunilla Allard.

The new variant joins the existing four-legged and five-legged swivel bases, bringing the total to three configurations under the Carousel name.

The four-legged version weighs 9.5 kg — lighter than the swivel base models at 11.5 kg each — thanks to its steel legs, available in chrome or powder-coated finish.

The seat retains the flex motion found across the Carousel family, allowing the chair to follow the natural movement of the body during use. The molded back uses high-resilient polyurethane foam, as does the formed plywood seat.

The shell chair silhouette and wing-shaped armrests remain consistent with earlier versions. The armrests serve a dual function: they add lateral support and act as a handle when repositioning the chair. Upholstery is available in fabric or leather, with an option for two-tone upholstery across the range.

The four-legged variant does not support height adjustment — this option is reserved for other configurations in the series.

Gunilla Allard has collaborated with Lammhults since 1988, when she was selected as one of five students for a workshop that led to her first professional furniture commission. She became Lammhults’ first female designer. The Cinema easy chair, designed for Lammhults in 1994, remains her most widely recognized work. She received the Georg Jensen Prize in 1996.
