One of Lammhult’s most renowned designers, Gunilla Allard, has been appointed honorary doctor at Växjö University

It is the Faculty Board for Mathematics/Natural Sciences/Technology at Växjö University that has appointed Gunilla Allard as honorary doctor. The faculty board’s justification states, among other things:

“Gunilla Allard’s successes are founded on the pursuit of flexibility and usability that characterize her work. An important part of her strategy is her effort to blur the distinction between furniture for homes and public spaces. Gunilla Allard is an independent designer with artistic depth and is thus represented in our national collections (Nationalmuseum and Röhsska Museum) and has been widely awarded both nationally and internationally.”

The conferment of the honorary doctorate will take place at the university’s annual ceremony on Saturday, February 12, 2005.

Gunilla Allard has collaborated with Lammhults since 1988. Her furniture is characterized by timeless elegance, good functionality, and classic design. These traits have benefited Lammhults and given the company a boundary-crossing collection that fits both public environments and private homes. Gunilla Allard has been recognized and awarded for numerous products designed for Lammhults, including:

Cinema Armchair
Excellent Swedish Design Award 1995

Cosmos Chair
Excellent Swedish Design Award 2000
Blueprint/100% Design 2000

Gunilla Allard has also received the Bruno Mathsson Prize in 2000 and the Georg Jensen Prize in 1996.

Claes Brechensbauer, CEO of Lammhults, says:
– It is a great honor and joy for Lammhults to have Gunilla Allard connected to us, and Lammhults congratulates her on her appointment at Växjö University.

Gunilla Allard was born in 1957 and studied at Konstfack in Stockholm from 1983 to 1988. She has also studied at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. She is a woman in a, after all, very male-dominated industry, which has only made her professional work even more interesting and has made her a role model for many young designers.
