Brdr. Krüger has added a rectangular coffee table to Hans Bølling’s HB Collection.
The table measures 120 x 50 cm (47.2 x 19.7 in). Its elongated format suits use alongside sofas and lounge seating, or as a low console, and brings the collection into a wider range of contemporary interiors.

The design
The new table continues the design language of Bølling’s Tray Table from 1963. It keeps the original’s simplicity, its architectural sense of proportion and the signature detail that runs through Bølling’s work. The Tray Table was most recently released as a limited anniversary edition marking Brdr. Krüger’s 140 years.
Bølling developed the HB Collection over several years through sketches and models at his home north of Copenhagen. The coffee tables, lounge chair and stool were conceived in close relation to the Tray Table. The result is a dialogue between the original design and a new generation of furniture that responds to its own time and place. The collection was first presented during 3daysofdesign 2022, when the original HB Coffee Table was introduced. The rectangular version carries the same balance between architectural clarity and human warmth, in a quiet and functional form.
“To me, this new version feels like it has always been here, in the best sense. It feels natural and compelling. This is what Hans Bølling’s design does. It is minimal, yet human and instinctively appealing,” says Jonas Krüger, Design Director and fifth generation at Brdr. Krüger.

Materials and craftsmanship
Each table is handmade from solid European white oak by cabinetmakers in Brdr. Krüger’s own workshop in Værløse, north of Copenhagen.
- Construction: The table is built with traditional joinery and assembled by hand.
- Surface: It is sanded by hand in gradual steps and finished with a hand-applied clear oil. The oil is low in VOC and contains no biocides. This finish preserves the wood’s natural character and keeps the surface repairable.
- Finishes: The table comes in oiled oak, for a lighter and natural appearance, or fumed oak, for a deeper and more atmospheric expression.
- Fuming process: For the fumed version, the oak is exposed to a small amount of ammonia vapour in a sealed environment for 20 hours. The vapour reacts with the wood’s natural tannins, deepening the colour and bringing out the grain without any dyes. Hue can vary between pieces depending on their tannin content.
- Sourcing: The wood comes from PEFC-certified, sustainably managed forests.
- Energy: Production runs on hydropower and waste-to-energy solutions.
