Kape Chair with K-Profile Frame

&Tradition introduces the Kape chair, designed by London-based studio Industrial Facility.

The design pairs a recycled aluminium frame with replaceable upholstery covers, prioritising longevity and repairability.

Kape’s distinctive K-profile frame is die-cast in post-consumer recycled aluminium with no visible joinery and softly rounded edges. The structure supports precisely fitted upholstery that can be slipped on and off like tailored clothing. Replacement covers are available separately in various fabrics and leathers.

“From the start, the design for Kape was driven by the desire for the chair to enjoy a long life, including potential repairability and refreshing,” explains Kim Colin of Industrial Facility. “We made ‘longevity of use’ one of the chair’s functions, just as we expect comfort and strength to be functions.”

Two kinds of foam are fitted inside the covers – one optimised for the seat, another for the backrest. The seat base uses FSC-certified wood. The upholstery can be dry cleaned and re-fitted when needed.

Sam Hecht adds: “Kape may be impactful visually, but environmentally its impact is low.”

The chair reflects &Tradition’s B Corp certification, with consideration for replaceability, repairability, and disassembly for recycling. Kape is available with frames in Warm Black or Polished Aluminium.
