Matilda Lindblom’s Djurö Chair Gets New Rope-Woven Teak Edition at Skargaarden

Skargaarden has introduced a new expression of its Djurö Chair, originally designed by Matilda Lindblom. The updated version is crafted from solid teak with hand-executed rope weaving across the seat and backrest — a shift that keeps the chair’s familiar silhouette while changing its tactile character entirely.

Generous armrests hold a morning coffee or an evening cocktail with equal ease, underscoring the chair’s purpose as a place to linger. The woven rope introduces a lightness that solid surfaces cannot match, while the frame is engineered to contract-grade outdoor standards — suited equally to private terraces and hospitality settings. Both the lounge chair and a matching dining chair with rope seats and backrests are now in stock and available to order.

Teak remains central to Skargaarden’s material language. Beyond its outdoor durability, the wood carries what the brand describes as a poetic asset: each slat is a relic of a tree from a distant plantation, ageing from amber to silvery grey unless oiled — a material that asks for a relationship rather than simply providing a finish.

matilda lindblomThe Djurö name comes from an island in Lake Vänern, Sweden’s largest lake, a place secluded enough that visitors often feel entirely alone, watched only by the fallow deer that roam it, rarely seen. The collection’s design language draws on 1950s Scandinavian teak furniture while staying current through material updates like this one.

Matilda Lindblom, who studied at Linköping University’s Carl Malmsten Furniture Studies program and at Konstfack, has designed collections for Skargaarden — Grinda, Djurö, and Oxnö — each defined by an apparent simplicity that reveals intricate detail on closer inspection.
