Nina Jobs’ newest chair for Skandiform, Bolero, takes its structure from a tailored jacket — an upholstered frame with soft, sculptural forms, offered on fixed legs or a swivel base, and designed, in her own words, “with forms of expression such as dance and fashion in mind.”
From graphic design to Paris
Jobs began her career as a graphic designer before turning to three-dimensional work, studying product design at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. That shift from flat to spatial thinking still shows in a practice built, as she describes it, on objects that “appear as though they have merely been nudged toward their natural form” — nothing missing, nothing superfluous.
An international client list
Working from her own studio in Stockholm, Jobs has designed for IKEA, Ericsson, H&M and Uniqlo, and been commissioned by the Swedish government for design exhibitions shown across Asia and the United States — an unusually wide client base for a furniture designer, spanning branding, retail and public diplomacy alongside product design.
Sound, wrapped in nature
For Skandiform, Jobs has developed a series of sound-absorbing wall panels built around natural forms: Deep Forest, shaped by tree and branch silhouettes, and Näver, a tribute to the Swedish craft of woven birch-bark baskets — both built from recycled and natural fibres with magnetic mounts for flexible installation.
Furniture with weight
Her earlier Kvilt collection for Gärsnäs took its quilting pattern from winter jackets, built on Pirelli webbing that follows the body’s movement, shown first as prototypes at the Stockholm Furniture Fair and Milan’s Salone del Mobile. Jobs continues to work with Skandiform across seating, screens and acoustic surfaces.
