Limited edition pp503 for the Tokyo exhibition
PP Møbler has created a limited edition of Hans J. Wegner’s pp503 to commemorate the upcoming Wegner Retrospective Exhibition in Tokyo, the largest presentation of Wegner’s work ever shown in Japan.
The limited series consists of ten chairs crafted in smoked oak, each fitted with a nubuck leather seat and a numbered plate that highlights the exclusivity of this edition. The pp503, also known as the Round Chair or simply The Chair, represents one of Wegner’s most celebrated designs and has been produced by PP Møbler since 1949.

The exhibition opens in December 2025 at Shibuya Hikarie Hall and brings together more than 160 pieces from the Oda Collection, offering a rare insight into the depth of Wegner’s design language. For PP Møbler, this project carries particular significance as it reflects the long-standing partnership between Wegner and the workshop, as well as the continued commitment to craftsmanship that defines their work.
Kasper Holst Pedersen, Master of Craftsmen and CEO of PP Møbler, describes the significance: “To me, this chair is more than an object. It is a tribute, to a craftsman, to a lifelong collaboration, and to the enduring beauty of honest work.”
Each of the ten chairs has been produced in PP Møbler’s workshop in Allerød using traditional methods that honour Wegner’s original intentions. The smoked oak brings a deep natural tone to the wood, while the nubuck leather adds a refined tactility that underscores the precision of the construction. The combination creates a distinctive aesthetic that sets this edition apart from the standard production models.

The limited edition pp503 will be available exclusively at the Tokyo exhibition, making it a collector’s piece for both Wegner enthusiasts and Japanese design aficionados. The numbered plates on each chair authenticate the edition and mark its connection to this historic presentation of Wegner’s work in Japan.
PP Møbler’s decision to create this special edition reflects the workshop’s dedication to preserving Wegner’s legacy through continued craftsmanship. The pp503 has remained in continuous production since its introduction, a testament to the timeless quality of Wegner’s design and PP Møbler’s manufacturing standards.
The Wegner Retrospective Exhibition at Shibuya Hikarie Hall represents a significant cultural event, bringing Danish design heritage to one of Tokyo’s most prominent cultural venues. The exhibition showcases the breadth of Wegner’s work through the Oda Collection, one of the world’s most comprehensive private collections of his furniture.
