Sea New York x
House of Finn Juhl: A Dialogue Between Fashion and Furniture

SeaxHouseofFinnJuhl 004

During NYCxDesign 2026 in New York and 3daysofdesign 2026 in Copenhagen, House of Finn Juhl and Sea New York present a special edition of the iconic Japan Series, bringing Danish mid-century modernism into dialogue with contemporary fashion craftsmanship.

For this collaboration, Finn Juhl’s Japan Series is reimagined with Sea New York textile design.

Upholstered in richly embroidered fabrics, the furniture becomes a meeting point between fashion and design where structure, surface, and material sensibility converge.

The featured textile, Flower Embroidery, is presented in the colors Raven, Heather, and Soft Linen with embroidery designed by Monica Paolini, creative director of Sea New York. Woven in wool and cotton at Kjellerup Væveri in central Jutland, Denmark, the collection draws on the colorful collection of drawings from Finn Juhl’s archive.

The Japan Series upholstered in Flower Embroidery is crafted in Denmark at House of Finn Juhl’s workshop, reflecting a continued commitment to local production. Chosen for its quiet, restrained expression, the Japan Series provides a calm architectural framework for the textiles. Its clean lines allow the intricacy of embroidery to come forward highlighting texture, detail, and handwork.

“A few years ago we had the opportunity to shoot in Finn Juhl’s home in Denmark, and being immersed in his spaces left a lasting impression on us. There is such a beautiful sense of movement and ease in his work. With this collaboration, we wanted to bring Sea’s embroidery and craftsmanship into that world, translating the texture of our materials onto his iconic forms in a way that feels natural and timeless.”

– Monica Paolini, Co-Founder & Creative Director, Sea New York

“At House of Finn Juhl, we seek collaborations that extend Finn Juhl’s legacy into new creative territories. This project is a conversation between Danish modernism and a contemporary fashion house rooted in artisanal craft. Sea New York is a natural partner. Their work celebrates embroidery and handcraft-techniques grounded in patience, precision, and tactility. Finn Juhl shared this sensitivity, captured in his belief that ‘the deviation is in the detail.”

– Kathrine Poulsen, Partner, House of Finn Juhl

The exhibition is developed in collaboration with Copenhagen-based studio Mentze Ottenstein, who have created a spatial concept that brings the two disciplines into dialogue through fabric, color, and form.

“We have been interested in Finn Juhl for many years-for his work, his life, and his role in establishing Danish design on the international stage. For that reason, this project felt incredibly natural: working with Finn Juhl’s furniture in collaboration with Sea New York, with whom we share a deep interest in craftsmanship. Finn Juhl himself often placed his furniture in dialogue with art and craft. This exhibition revisits that approach.”

– Mathias Mentze & Alexander Ottenstein

The special edition of the Japan Series will debut during NYCxDesign in New York (May 15-21, 2026), followed by a global launch at 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen (June 10-12, 2026). The collection will be available through Design Within Reach (DWR) from summer 2026.
