What sets Børge Mogensen apart from any other designer? It’s all captured in the Spanish Chair. Have a seat, sit back and relax. Only then can you experience Børge’s passionate pursuit of honest materials and exquisite craftsmanship, where every millimetre matters.
First there’s the expertly treated solid oak. Place your hands on the armrests and you can’t help but notice how wide they are. Perfect for placing a cup of coffee or glass of wine, it’s a design detail distinctive to the chair.
Then there’s the leather. Saddle leather. Run your fingers along the surface to feel the firmness and irrefutable high quality.
In the back and underneath the chair are brass buckles, like straps, that secure the leather. As the leather expands, the straps can easily be adjusted to fit. So you can sit comfortably from day one – for the rest of your life.
The more you sit in a Spanish Chair, the more it patinates and accommodates the shape of your body. Like a beautiful pair of leather shoes that become a natural extension of your feet, the Spanish Chair allows you to leave your own imprint, which makes this a very personal chair.
It’s this unique close relationship, the one created between a person and an object, which embodies “The Børge Feeling”.
Børge initially introduced the Spanish Chair in 1958. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of this iconic design, we’re pleased to launch a special edition available from the 19th of September. The exact day when the Spanish Chair was first presented to the world at the Cabinetmakers’ Guild in Copenhagen.
