During 3daysofdesign 2026, Danish design house Vipp opened its Copenhagen campus to an ephemeral guesthouse installation created in collaboration with Barcelona-based architecture and design studio Mesura.

The presentation formed part of a broader campus programme that included exhibitions, new product launches, private tours, and a personal introduction to the spaces and stories behind the Vipp brand.

Titled “From Guesthouse to Playhouse,” the installation drew on the celebratory atmosphere of Danish Midsummer, unfolding across Vipp’s courtyard and garage as what the designers describe as a spatial playhouse.

Inspired by the simple act of a picnic, the concept used vibrant plaid textiles draped across walls, floors, and furniture to create a shared landscape intended for rest, conversation, and play. Through this treatment, the guesthouse shifted in character from a secluded retreat to a communal gathering space.

Inside the Vipp Garage, a single plaid textile extended across every surface, creating a fully immersive environment. At the centre of the room, a large conversation pit was built from sections of Vipp’s modular Loft sofa, forming the installation’s main communal landscape. Specially developed editions of the Vipp Swivel chair were positioned throughout the space, introducing new perspectives on the familiar object.

The installation’s structure paired Vipp’s metalworking heritage with a contrasting sense of softness. A visible steel construction formed the underlying framework, while every surface was wrapped in textile from floor to ceiling, offsetting the rigidity of the steel with tactile warmth. The experience began before visitors entered the building: the same plaid textile extended into the courtyard, where outdoor furniture pieces hinted at what awaited inside.

Benjamin Iborra, partner architect at Mesura, described the thinking behind the installation: a guesthouse, he said, is a space where a sense of home can be created, and home is in essence a shared experience designed to bring people together.

As part of the collaboration, Mesura developed an exclusive edition of the Vipp Swivel chair, extending the installation’s material language beyond the duration of 3daysofdesign.

Mesura is a Barcelona-based architecture and design studio founded in 2010 by five partners following an award-winning urban transformation proposal for Dubrovnik. The studio works across architecture, interiors, and strategic design, with a portfolio that includes a collaboration with Aesop and a recent intervention at Casa Batlló engaging with the architectural language of Antoni Gaudí. Mesura describes its approach as rooted in materiality, context, and narrative, treating each project as a dialogue between history and contemporary life.
