“Colours of Water 2025” collection launched at Habitare 2025
Harri Koskinen’s iconic design classic from 2004 gains new dimension in this year’s “Colours of Water 2025” collection
HELSINKI – Woodnotes presents at Habitare 2025 the latest evolution of Harri Koskinen’s award-winning k chair: a new colorway named “SKY” that draws inspiration from water’s constantly changing expressions. The new color complements the company’s 20th anniversary series from 2024 consisting of “BRICK”, “PARK” and “CONCRETE”.
“I never cease to marvel at the lively surface of water and the different structures it forms,” says Minna Ahokas, designer and Coordinator for Woodnotes’ product development. “And on the other hand, how water completely changes its form from one season to another. It turns into floating mist and freezes into solid ice.”
A Design Classic in Continuous Evolution
The k chair, which won the Interior Innovation Award in 2004, has undergone thoughtful evolution since its launch. The latest version combines the original design’s lightness with a four-star base, swivel function, and a gentle rocking mechanism that naturally follows the sitter’s movements.
“When Woodnotes almost twenty years ago asked me to design their new product, I hadn’t really designed furniture for serial production,” recalls Harri Koskinen. “Thus, the project was significant for both parties, as Woodnotes’ product range hadn’t included furniture.”
Technical Innovation Meets Scandinavian Aesthetics
The new k chair version in “SKY” colorway retains the characteristic comfortable seating surface upholstered in Woodnotes’ signature Sand textile – a paper yarn-cotton fabric that offers both comfort and sustainability. The replaceable seat and backrest covers enable easy renewal and adaptation to changing interiors.
The chair combines the best features from its predecessors: the tubular frame’s lightness, rotation functionality, and the pleasant rocking mechanism. The round plate base provides stability while maintaining the design’s elegant profile.
Part of Larger Design Narrative
The “SKY” launch is part of Woodnotes’ broader “Colours of Water 2025” initiative, where the company explores water’s various forms as design inspiration. Following a meticulous process to find the perfect shades of blue, the Coast and Horizon collections have been complemented with blue-toned carpets that appear almost alive.
Harri Koskinen, one of Finland’s most internationally renowned designers with works in collections including New York’s Museum of Modern Art, thus continues his long relationship with Woodnotes that began in 2004.
