Background

Asplund is a Stockholm design house founded in 1990, built around furniture, rugs and objects made with a small, consistent circle of designers rather than a rotating cast. The company runs its own store on Sibyllegatan in Stockholm rather than working purely through retailers — a setup that keeps the full range, from handmade carpets to case furniture, under one roof.

Design philosophy

Asplund’s stated aim is furniture that never needs justifying: clean, functional lines and proportions built to outlast trends rather than chase them. The company puts real weight behind the idea that a well-made piece should age with its owner — customers returning decades later to furnish their children’s first homes is treated internally as proof the approach works, and it shapes decisions on materials and manufacturing as much as on form.

Key collaborations

Broberg & Ridderstråle has become one of Asplund’s most consistent collaborators in recent years, responsible for the Tati table series, the Lucca coffee table and the Luc Deluxe cabinet. Claesson Koivisto Rune has contributed to the long-running Kilt series, while Thomas Sandell‘s relationship with the brand is Asplund’s longest-running of all: together with Jonas Bohlin, he designed the Snow storage piece in 1994, still in the collection three decades later, and later returned with the TS Chair, originally made for Stockholm’s Moderna Museet. Anya Sebton, working with Eva Lilja Löwenhielm, designed the Palais series that was later named Furniture of the Year.

Recent work

2026 has brought a wave of new pieces: Marie-Louise Hellgren expanded the Wedge rug collection, Daniel Lavonius Jarefeldt introduced the solid-wood Iris coffee table, and Emma Olbers added Floors & Books, a tufted wool carpet series — evidence that a company built on 35-year-old principles is still bringing in new voices to apply them.
