Gärsnäs introduces Day Wood, a new development of Pierre Sindre’s Day chair, originally launched in 2012

The fully upholstered shell chair now comes with wooden legs and armrests, adding tactility and warmth to the versatile seating family.

Day was designed as a comfortable alternative to hard conference and institutional seating. The upholstery is removable, washable, and replaceable, extending the chair’s lifespan. With Day Wood, Gärsnäs applies its joinery expertise to create thin, elegant wooden elements that complement the soft shell.

“School and conference chairs are traditionally hard, technical chairs, and here we are trying to achieve something much more light and sensual,” says Pierre Sindre. “Day Wood is about sitting longer, four to six hours, without adding a large lounge seat. A small chair with sympathetic tactility.”

The wooden frame is also available as an upgrade for existing Day chairs with metal bases. Gärsnäs CEO Magnus Eriksson describes the development as a natural extension of the company’s strength in advanced wooden construction, citing chairs like Light & Easy and Petite as examples of their thin-dimension craftsmanship.

“The most important thing is to bring holistic, thoughtful additions,” Sindre explains. “Day Wood is an important development, not because it’s new or trendy, but because it’s thoughtful and sound.”
