NC Nordic Care Launches Cirrus: Pierre Sindre’s Sustainable Healthcare Sofa Collection

Pierre Sindre has designed the Cirrus sofa series for NC Nordic Care, a furniture collection that addresses the specific requirements of healthcare and care environments while maintaining a residential character suitable for public spaces.

The Cirrus series features full upholstery that provides soft, embracing seating without compromising durability or functionality. The design balances subtle elegance with generous softness, creating furniture that conveys care through its thoughtful harmony between aesthetics and function. The series includes configurations suitable for waiting rooms, lounge areas, and care facilities.

For healthcare hygiene standards, Cirrus incorporates removable upholstery and offers an optional rubber fabric suitable for hospital environments. The design includes gaps between seat, backrest, and armrest to facilitate optimal hygiene maintenance. The neat profile allows placement in smaller spaces, with easy access underneath the armchair for cleaning.

NC Nordic Care has engineered Cirrus with sustainability and circularity principles, enabling components to be replaced or repaired when needed. The frames are crafted from FSC-certified birch and oak, supporting responsible forest management practices.

The series provides customization options including frame finishes in birch or oak, wooden base in any color specification, and rubber fabric alternatives for healthcare applications. The solid wood construction, removable upholstery, and replaceable padding support the product’s longevity and maintenance requirements in demanding public environments.

Cirrus demonstrates how healthcare furniture can create a sense of home in institutional settings, offering inclusive and embracing seating that serves both functional requirements and human comfort needs.

Pierre Sindre

Furniture designer and interior architect.

Pierre currently works as a freelance designer and architect, based on Färingsö outside Stockholm.

My work as a designer is often shaped by the space—how a piece of furniture interacts with walls, floors, ceilings, and the rest of the furnishings. A piece should be able to stand on its own, yet also harmonize with its surroundings. Over the years as an interior architect, I have gained extensive knowledge in this area and have made it my mission to make public spaces feel more human. I have a strong affinity for production, am deeply interested in product development, and believe that design must evolve through close collaboration with industry.

For NC, Pierre has designed the Cirrus series, which includes an armchair as well as 2- and 3-seater sofas. Cirrus is a piece of furniture that offers a homely appearance with its soft cushions and inviting design language. The idea is for the furniture to evoke the feel of a TV sofa at home while meeting all the requirements of public spaces, such as crumb gaps, removable covers, and a higher seat height.
