Ambience is a table lamp designed by Pierre Sindre for Örsjö Belysning.

The lamp is described as the sibling of the Visir table lamp — a companion piece that shares the same design language while extending it in a new direction, with atmosphere as its defining purpose.

The idea behind Ambience is to create a sense of warmth and enclosure around the light source, drawing a reference to the way light functions in a Rembrandt painting: concentrated, soft and human in its quality.

It is conceived as a lamp to gather around — one that makes the immediate area feel safe and intimate, and that actively encourages the kind of proximity between people that good lighting can foster.

Where many contemporary lamps prioritise the distribution of light across a space, Ambience works in the opposite direction: it contains the light, creates a pool of warmth, and defines a zone within the room rather than illuminating the whole of it. This approach reflects Pierre Sindre’s broader interest in the emotional and social dimensions of lighting design.
