Sibast Furniture | Danish Furniture Classics

Background

Sibast Furniture traces its story to 1908, the birth year of Helge Sibast on the Danish island of Funen, son of a cabinetmaker whose apprentice he became. Helge took over and expanded his father’s business, and by the 1950s and 60s had built a factory employing more than 120 craftsmen. Since 2012 the fourth generation, Anna and Ditlev Sibast, has run the company from its Copenhagen showroom — and in October 2025, Sibast Furniture merged with fellow Danish heritage brand Bent Hansen, uniting two family design legacies under one roof.

Design philosophy

Sibast combines respectful reissues and refinements of Helge Sibast’s iconic 1950s Danish Modern furniture with contemporary designs of timeless appearance, treating the collection as a way of passing Danish design heritage on to future generations rather than a static archive.

The Sibast classics

Helge Sibast’s No 7, 8 and 9 dining chairs, designed in 1953, marked their 70th anniversary in 2023; the No 8 alone has won a German Design Award. The No 59 chair, originally from 1959, returned to production in 2024.

Reissuing Danish design legends

Piet Hein designed both the Piet Hein Chair and the Superelliptical chair in 1968, but neither had ever been produced until Sibast took them on decades later. Arne Vodder‘s Sideboard No 11 — a design with a history stretching to the White House — returned in 2022, and 2026 marked the 100th anniversary of Vodder’s birth.

Contemporary collaborations

Anna and Ditlev Sibast design for the collection themselves, including the No 7 lounge table. Rikke Frost‘s sculptural Vido table joined the range in 2025, alongside Morten Anker’s Rib Outdoor Collection and musician-designer Kasper Eistrup’s Xlibris series.

Recent work

2026 has centred on the new Primum Lounge Collection, developed with Anna and Ditlev Sibast and unveiled during 3daysofdesign, alongside Steffensen & Würtz’s Inverse Side Table in aluminium — evidence that the Bent Hansen merger is already feeding directly into new collections rather than staying a corporate footnote.
