A new spatial framework for experiencing wood in unexpected ways.

Dinesen announces the completion of Dinesen Gallery—a transformed exhibition space within its Copenhagen Showroom, designed by the architectural studio Office Kim Lenschow.

The project reimagines the showroom as a living, breathing sequence of spatial experiences that put wood at the centre of every encounter.

The transformation has been designed to function simultaneously as an exhibition space, a place for conversation,
and a working showroom, within a flexible framework that reflects Dinesen’s ongoing dialogue between heritage and contemporary design culture.

ARCHITECTURE: ROOMS WITHIN A ROOM

Office Kim Lenschow approached the project with a clear ambition: not simply to display products, but to create spatial conditions in which architecture, craftsmanship, and atmosphere could coexist.

Central to the transformation are the new wall-and-ceiling cladding solutions. Large sliding walls of Dinesen’s engineered Layers planks loosely divide the gallery, responding to the existing floor plan and enabling the space to shift seamlessly between functions.

The entryway immerses visitors in floor-to-ceiling Oak, creating a moment of spatial compression and intensity before opening onto the broader showroom floor. A continuous wooden flow follows you, with each passageway clad in Oak, transitioning to Douglas as you turn and move back towards the exit, colours shifting from deep golden tones to lighter nuances.

The back space is turned into a merged sample and meeting room rising on a podium, with white-finished Pine walls and floors lining the interior.

Lighting tracks, acoustic panels, and spatial divisions are integrated into a coherent whole. Minimal in appearance, considered in effect. The result is a sequence of rooms that feel softer and more tactile, where wood is experienced not only visually but also physically and acoustically.

DINESEN GALLERY SHOWCASES WORKS BY MALTE FREJ
Alongside the architectural transformation, Dinesen Gallery hosts a selection of works by Danish artist Malte Frej. Working primarily with wood, the traces of hand and tool are left deliberately visible as part of each work’s narrative. The works on display span drawing, sculpture, basketry, and functional objects, drawing on vernacular craft, folk art, and rural culture.

The following works are presented in the Gallery:

CABIN FEVER, 2026
Framed drawings and ash/oak axe handles. A meditation on material culture and the handmade object, bridging drawing and sculptural form.

NYE SPOR, I KENDT JORD, 2026
Salix viminalis (common osier) baskets. Woven from a traditional Danish basketry material, these works honour a vernacular craft tradition while occupying space as silent, considered sculpture.

SELECTION FROM SKUESTYKKE, 2025
Hand-carved spoons in maple, birch, plum, sea buckthorn, beech, cherry, alder, rowan, lilac, hawthorn, pear, and apple wood. Each spoon is carved from a named wood species, making the work both a survey of local material diversity and a celebration of the individual hand. Frej’s presence in the Gallery affirms Dinesen’s commitment to artists and makers for whom wood is not merely a medium but a living cultural material.
