Limited Aalto 90 Anniversary Vases in Traditional Bubble Glass
Iittala marks the 90th anniversary of Alvar Aalto’s iconic vase with the Aalto 90 Bubble Glass collection — a fresh interpretation that honors nine decades of design excellence.
The Finnish glassmaker introduces three anniversary editions (120mm, 160mm, and 201mm) featuring traditional bubble glass technique that adds contemporary texture to Aalto’s timeless organic form.
Each Aalto Bubble Vase is hand made and mouth blown at the Iittala glass factory in Finland using a historic glassblowing method. Craftsmen apply soda to molten glass before adding subsequent layers, creating natural air bubbles that become suspended within the form. This traditional technique produces a light-catching surface texture that gives each vase unique character while maintaining the flowing lines Aalto designed in 1936.
The Aalto 90 collection spans three sizes suited to different applications. The compact 120mm vase works as a decorative object or holds small arrangements. The versatile 160mm size accommodates everyday bouquets and seasonal flowers. The commanding 201mm vase creates impact with long-stemmed flowers or stands alone as sculptural centerpiece.
All three anniversary editions carry the special signature “AALTO 90 IITTALA” marking this milestone year. The bubble glass finish enhances how light interacts with Aalto’s original wave-inspired silhouette, adding movement and depth to a design that has remained relevant across generations of Finnish craftsmanship.
