Thriving Materia gives new designers wind behind their sails
Materia is swimming against the current in terms of growth, and has increased its market share despite the recession. For 2009 we are expanding our design ensemble with two Norwegian teams – Norway Says; Andreas Engesvik, Espen Voll and Torbjørn Anderssen, as well as; Atle Tveit, Lars Tornøe and Steinar Hindenes, and are giving newcomer Fredrik Färg from HDK wind behind his sails. ”Heavyset in character yet neat in volume, Fat is an archetypal chair, which we broadened, pulled out and fattened a bit – hence the name. It is intended for occasional sitting in all kinds of public indoor spaces, including shopping malls, care facilities and offices.”

”An exclamation mark, which can either stand by itself or, if repeated, form beautiful landscapes. Inspired by the pillars of the subway system, which expose layers of posters, it swallows periodicals like no other magazine holder.”

”It struck me that the characteristics of felt gave it incredible potential. I started out with a plane surface and folded it, almost like origami. This time it turned out to be a magazine holder, which leads its own life depending on how you place the periodicals. It´s all about the experience of things not always being what you expect them to be.”
