Norm Architects partnered with L. Ercolani — the craft-focused sub-brand of British furniture manufacturer Ercol — to design two product series: the Reprise chair and the Canvas collection.
The collaboration was announced in 2020.
The foundation of the partnership is a shared design philosophy.
Both Norm Architects and L. Ercolani approach furniture through a commitment to craftsmanship, democratic function, and materials used with intention rather than ornamentation. Norm Architects described the alignment as intuitive — a native familiarity with the values that have shaped L. Ercolani’s identity, which enabled the studio to work from inside the brand’s logic rather than imposing an external aesthetic on it.
The Reprise chair takes its name from the musical concept of repetition with variation — returning to an established form and developing it further. The Canvas series extends this principle across a broader range of pieces. Both collections are produced using Ercol’s longstanding wood-forming techniques, which have been central to the company since its founding in High Wycombe, England in 1920.
Norm Architects is a Copenhagen-based design studio founded in 2008 by Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen and Kasper Rønn. The studio works across furniture, architecture, and interiors, and has developed collections with manufacturers including Audo Copenhagen, &Tradition, and Wendelbo. Its practice is characterised by a restraint that looks to natural materials, light, and proportion as the primary tools of design.
L. Ercolani was established as a distinct brand within Ercol to continue the founder Lucian Ercolani’s original vision of well-made, accessible wooden furniture.
