Mr T by Roger Duverell & Ola Giertz for Materia Invites Multiple Seating Positions
The name gives a hint at the approach: the stool is shaped to work in multiple orientations and seating positions.
You can sit upright, perch on the edge, or straddle it — all from the same object, depending on what the situation calls for.
This versatility makes Mr T particularly well suited to informal meeting settings, breakout areas and open-plan offices, where the same piece of furniture may need to serve different purposes across a day. When several Mr T stools are grouped together and positioned in different directions, they create a dynamic environment that encourages conversation and movement — a quality that distinguishes the design from conventional seating.
Roger Duverell is a Swedish designer who has collaborated with Materia across multiple projects. Ola Giertz is also a Swedish designer with a practice centred on furniture and objects for the public environment. Materia is a Swedish furniture manufacturer with a consistent focus on the workplace, known for a broad portfolio of seating, tables and storage for office and contract settings.
Mr T demonstrates a recurring interest at Materia in furniture that responds to how people actually behave in shared environments — not how they are supposed to sit, but how they do sit. The stool has a compact form and a presence that holds its own whether used alone or arranged with others.
