The versatile pendant lamp N-PL01 is designed by Norm Architects – Karimoku

The Japanese lifestyle brand Karimoku celebrates the official launch of its first lighting design to its wooden furniture collection. The new N-PL01 | Pendant Lamp is designed by Norm Architects and collaboratively produced by traditional Japanese lantern maker Kojima Shoten and Japanese lifestyle brand Karimoku.

Made from Washi Paper and featuring a wooden bamboo frame, the pendant lamp convinces with its reduced and delicate design language.

The versatile pendant lamp N-PL01 has already been specified in numerous Karimoku exhibitions and architectural projects as a custom-made product and is now part of the permanent Karimoku collection and available to order in two sizes and two wood finishes.

The shape of the pendant lamp N-PL02 mimics the architecture of the Archipelago House, Karimoku’s third case study. With its high and triangular shaped roof construction, the summerhouse needs light being spread not only down, but also up and to the sides. The bottom of the light has been covered with a single piece of Washi paper, which is cleverly held in place by a few magnets, making it easy to disassemble should you need to change the bulb. The bottom furthermore acts as a screen, hiding the lightsource and creating a warm and indirect light. The paper cord creates subtle reference to the furniture in the Karimoku collection, but it is also inspired by the ropes and lines found on the nearby small fishing harbour, somehow adding a maritime feeling to the product.

“With its minimalist and iconic shape, the new N-PL01 is easily recognizable, yet it seamlessly integrates into and enhances any environment. Designed by Norm Architects and collaboratively produced by Kojima Shoten and Karimoku Furniture, the process of developing the design has been a great source of inspiration and learnings. We firmly believe that the harmonious balance between the traditional Japanese manufacturing methods of Kojima Shoten and high-tech high-touch philosophy of Karimoku Furniture is beautifully embodied in the newest addition to the Karimoku Collection.”
